- Fuming is a finishing process that darkens wood and brings out the grain pattern. It consists of exposing the wood to fumes from a strong aqueous solution of ammonium hydroxide which reacts with the tannins in the wood.this can be a time consuming and can take days to complete the Process!
-Instead of using the traditional method I have gone for a different approach and applied the Rubio Monocoat “fumed” pre-ageing solution which gives the same effect but only takes a few minutes to apply & no nasty ammonia vapours!
As you can see in the pictures above this technique brings out some lovely blue/grey hues and leaves an eye catching natural patina!
